Homemade Honey Roasted Peanut Butter Details
- Texture: The consistency of this homemade honey roasted peanut butter is pretty thick and you can control the smoothness. If you prefer a creamy peanut butter, blend/process until it’s smooth. Leave some chunks if you prefer a little texture in your nut butters OR stir in a handful of chopped peanuts at the end.
- Flavor: If you love honey roasted peanuts, you’ll adore them blended down into nut butter. Same flavor, different texture!
- Time: This homemade peanut butter takes about 5 minutes.
What About Using Plain Peanuts?
Instead of honey roasted peanuts, you could use dry roasted plain peanuts and add 1 Tablespoon of honey. If your peanuts are unsalted, add a pinch of salt (or to taste).
Use a Blender or Food Processor
To process the honey roasted peanuts into a smooth consistency, you need something high-powered. We usually use this blender/chopper for making nut butters at home. If you’re looking for a blender recommendation, the Vitamix is known as the gold standard. It’s pricey, but has no problem breaking down even the hardest foods including nuts to make nut butters.
- Note: No matter which processor or blender you use, homemade peanut butter will always be a little grainier than commercially processed.

Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 cups honey roasted peanuts
- optional as needed: 1 Tablespoon peanut oil, vegetable oil, or canola oil
Instructions
- Pulse/process the honey roasted peanuts in a food processor until they go from whole to coarsely chopped to crumbly to finely ground. If the peanuts aren’t grinding down easily, add up to 1 Tablespoon of oil such as canola oil, peanut oil, or vegetable oil. Process again until you have a thick and smooth peanut butter. (Feel free to leave a few chunks or even stir in a handful of chopped honey roasted peanuts.)
- Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Could you use coconut oil instead of vegetable/canola oil?
A liquid oil (that doesn’t solidify at room temp) is best.

It looked creamy at about three minutes in my food processor, but it turned out to be grittier than I anticipated–but still yummy. Does it get smoother if I keep it going longer? Also, do you use those canisters of honey-roasted nuts or another version? Overall, this is ingenious!

Can you also make this with unsalted peanuts and do they have to be toasted?
They do not have to be roasted. I suggest adding some salt, to taste.
Thank you Sally. I ended up roasting my peanuts in the over for about 10 minutes and then tossed them into the foodprosesor and then just like you said magic happend. I added some seasalt and a bit of honey near the end. It looks just like storebought, but taste very pure.

There’s some company, can’t remember the name of it of course, that makes the white chocolate peanut butter, dark chocolate, and cinnamon raisin peanut butter but I can’t bring myself to pay for it. When I made this it didnt go creamy 🙁 i put in a little bit of oil but it didn’t help either. Any reason why Sally?
Were your peanuts dry roasted? Or did you use oily honey roasted peanuts? Either way, I’m surprised a little oil didn’t help. Perhaps another Tbsp will get things moving. Enjoy!
Hey… does this end up being creamy. My favorite peanut butter is jiff creamy natural peanut butter. I used to love skippy..but then my aunt had me try jiff. . I never ever went back to skippy..even if it was on sale! Lol. If I want it creamier…could I add a little more honey? Does it give it a little sweet taste also…mm.. I cant wait!

Hi Jennifer – yep, this is creamy as long as you process it for a good while. I like it sort of grainy, but process it for as long as you want to achieve a smoother texture. It really doesn’t need honey since it’s already so sweet from the honey roasted peanuts. Though you could add some if you wanted!
Absolutely fantastic. I saw this recipe and tried it. Then, I made my own with Cashew nuts, Macadamia nut with Honey butter. I think I’m well and truly addicted now.
